Roofing estimate template

Organize roof measurements, material quantities, crew costs and exclusions before preparing a bid. Start with the blank form or follow the synthetic example below.

Each PDF is two pages. Fill the blank form in a compatible PDF reader or print it. Totals are manual; the form does not calculate prices. The filled example is illustrative and is not an offer or customer quote.

How to use it

  1. Measure the actual roof surface. Record pitch, access and the number of existing layers.
  2. Convert square feet to roofing squares (100 sq ft per square). Apply waste to the relevant materials and check product coverage.
  3. Use supplier quotes and your own labor rates. Record quantities, units and the date of each quote.
  4. Show overhead, contingency, taxes and permits separately. Specify allowances and excluded work.
  5. Check every line and total before sharing. This worksheet is not a contract or an automatic roof takeoff.

Worked example: a 2,000 sq ft roof

Synthetic worked example. Illustrative USD rates only; not a quote, live supplier price, or validated regional estimate.

2,000 sq ft of measured roof surface, asphalt shingles, one existing layer. One roofing square = 100 sq ft. Add 10% waste to shingles only: 2,200 sq ft = 22 squares. Labor uses 20 measured squares. Use roof surface measurements, not the house footprint.

Excludes hidden decking damage, structural work, gutters, taxes and permit costs. Verify pitch, access, ventilation, flashing, product coverage, local requirements and supplier quotes. Underlayment, accessory and disposal allowances need contractor review.

Replace these rates with your own quotes and crew costs, then recalculate overhead and contingency on the revised direct costs. Review every quantity and exclusion before sharing an estimate.
